One of my goals this year was to work through my stash of unfinished quilting projects from last year. Although I’m doing pretty well on my goal to make at least 12 quilts this year I’d only completed one of my unfinished projects. Time to get busy on some of those!
I began working on the strip sets and cutting the triangles for this quilt in the fall and set them aside because I never did buy the background fabric needed. Other projects kept trumping it (can we say holidays??) and it ended up in the bottom of my basket of half done stuff. I decided to pull it out and get busy before starting too many new projects. Funny how those keep piling up!
In the new year, I made it a point to work on a stash of white and other background fabrics so I wouldn’t have that as an excuse any longer. Let’s face it…buying up tons of white yardage is not as much fun as other fabric!
This quilt is called Flip Flops and comes from the book Strip-Smart Quilts II. Pretty good timing to finish it up while I’m on Spring Break and headed to the beach tomorrow, right?
This quilt will not be making the trip to the beach though. Although it wasn’t my plan when I began this quilt while working on it I decided it would make a great gift for my step-daughter. I’ll be hiding this away in the closet until Christmas. (My plan is to have a quilt for each kid at Christmas this year.)
It was such a fun quilt to make. The example in the book used bright colors and I agreed that this quilt looked amazing with bright colors. I found the perfect jelly roll at my local quilt shop (forgot the line – oh no!) I love the vibrant colors and adore the scrappy binding!
Every time I look at the quilt I see fun color combinations that I didn’t notice before!
I used some stash to piece the backing. There are some Amy Butler and Riley Blake goodies here…

And shockingly, there were no children around during the picture taking so it if model free. I love putting a person in my quilt pictures but there were no little(ish) people to be had. My husband and I were childless for almost 48 hours. So weird! I do not remember the last time that happened!

Well, I’m going to be honest…I had a lot less unfinished projects when I just made clothing. Quilts have been a whole new story! I suppose the not being able to finish the project in a sitting has a lot to do with it. I’m sure it has nothing to do with my ADHD tendencies.

I love this quilt! It’s perfect for spring and the Lark Amy Butler print on the back is great! I agree with you. Having a person in the quilt pictures adds personality but it sure makes the shots more difficult to take. You’ve inspired me to work on improving that although I must say…these pictures are fabulous as they are!

Thanks for your sweet comments!! I love having people in my pictures so much! Maureen Cracknell tries taking pictures in pretty places in her town. I keep thinking I should try that as well – but for now adding a person is going to be my thing. I almost always have one around and I’m impatient when I’m finished with a quilt to have it photo documented!!

Awesome blog. And isn’t ALYOF just the best? I have been doing it for 2 1/2 years. I have become a finisher! Love your fabrics, and your models, and your quilts.
