Yay! My second A Lovely Year of Finishes actual finish! My goal was to finish quilting and binding my Wacky Web Selvage quilt that will be my nine year old daughter’s Christmas gift this year.
Here she is…
All finished.
Boy does that feel good. I think I may have mentioned that I’m a bit obsessed with the quilt. I’ve wanted to do a selvage quilt for awhile and this one was just too stinkin’ fun to make. I highly recommend making a wacky web quilt. It’s a blast to watch the pattern come together and grow…each block a new happy surprise!
The selvage edges are fun too. It’s neat to see my favorite designers names on this quilt…it’s almost like an autograph quilt for celebrity designers. Oh look, I see some Jennifer Paganelli, Amy Butler, Sarah Jane, Heather Bailey, Josephine Kimberling…
Here’s a look at the backing fabric and the binding. I love binding. Love it!
I think my daughter is going to love this bright, happy quilt. Now the hard part is keeping it hidden away in the closet for a few more months. It needs to be draped somewhere to be admired…

Lovely! I love making projects with selvages, though I’ve never managed one as epic as this! Have you heard about the Selvage Along over at Qulity Habit? Your quilt fits the theme perfectly!

I’ve never made a selvage quilt because I didn’t see a way to do it that I liked, but I see that you cut the selvage as part of a bigger piece, and I like that! I think I might have just found an inspiration for another scrap quilt – but now I have to start collecting a few selvages. =) Thanks!

Glad you like it. I began by only cutting the selvages and found that to be too narrow to work with. Would love to see what you do when you make your selvage creation!

I love it. I must try leaving more on my selvages to allow more options since I collect and collect… and hoard and hoard… but don’t use often enough because they are so narrow…

I only saved slim selvages to begin with but started cutting 1-1 1/2 inches off now that I’ve begun making projects. Love having bits of the fabric to go with it. The selvages themselves are too narrow for most projects.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I love how the white balances out all the color (I also love color!). I love cutting my selvages thick, too. Please feel free to join the Selvage Along! 🙂
