Modern HST Sampler Blocks – Block #5 and #6

Two posts today. Wow!!

I’m not really behind on making blocks – I just cannot seem to get around to posting about them! Both of these blocks were completed fairly quickly after the instructions posted. They’ve just been lying around, waiting to be photographed and blogged!

Completing blocks #5 and #6 have us finishing up the first quarter of the quilt! Wow!! This year is speeding by very quickly!

A Quilt Story

Modern HST Quilt Along – Block 1

I know it’s a second post for the day but I was excited about finishing my first block in the Modern HST Quilt Along. I think it turned out lovely and I’m excited to see how it all turns out. This is not a color combination I usually do and I like it. I’m also thinking about cutting back some of the fabrics I pulled and sticking with yellow, orange and dark blues only…

The name of the block is Candy and you can find the tutorial for putting it together here. (It’s a Shoo Fly block but the arrangement of colored half square triangles makes it look like a piece of candy.) I think it looks like the taffy you get in the candy stores in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

This block was pretty quick to cut and sew up. I love sewing up quick blocks. Now I’m very anxious to see the rest of the blocks and finish up this quilt!

A Fabric Story, A Quilt Story

Fabric Pull

Today I’m going to sew up the first block in a Mystery Block of the Month. It’s a Modern Half Square Triangle Sampler over at Blossom Heart Quilts. I’m very excited about this quilt along. I really admire Alyce’s work and am looking forward to getting those half square triangles more precise!

I’ve done a fabric pull for the entire quilt, which calls for approximately 16 fat quarters and some background fabric. I pulled from my stash and have an assortment of fat quarters from Cotton + Steel, Heather Bailey, Iza Pearl and background fabric from Zen Chic.

I’m excited to see how this is going to turn out.
