Whimsical Fabric Quilt Along

I said I wanted to be more involved in the online quilting community so I’m jumping right in with a few quilt alongs. I’m really excited about being a part of this. Whimsical Fabric will be hosting one of the quilt alongs I’m going to participate in and the tutorials for the January block(s) were up today.

It’s a very simple, two inch nine patch for this months block(s) and I already has some pretty small scraps on my sewing table. I picked out some of the pink and blue fabrics and began trimming them down to two inches.

I decided to make five blocks. I’m not sure how the quilt will go together yet so I’m prepared with extra blocks. If I do not use them all in the quilt I’m sure they will make nice pin cushions later on!

I had to take individual block photos to enter them in the Whimsical Fabric Quilt album on their facebook page so here they are. I’m loving these colors together!

I may or may not have been tempted to go ahead and sew four of these nine patch units into a big 36 patch…wouldn’t it look amazing?

I’m going to be good though and see how the quilt will come together in the end. If I decide to only use one of these nine patch units in the final layout I can always sew the last four together, right? 🙂

This sews up really, really fast. This would be a great quilt along to join in if you are busy or a beginning quilter. I think it took me thirty minutes to cut and sew these up! I’d love to know if you are going to participate…or if you are doing any other quilt alongs.
